Poolside (Online Exclusive)
December 3 – March 10th, 2021Ken Rush
Court Tree Collective proudly presents Poolside by Ken Rush. A 50 year exploration of the iconic symbol of leisure. Over the decades, Ken has periodically returned to pool imagery, but it took the isolation of last summer for him to embrace the work he had started in 1970.
Artist Statement:
I grew up in the New York suburbs surrounded by beach and country clubs, and one summer, my parents installed a swimming pool. Swimming and hanging out at our secluded pool filled my summer days. When I spent my Junior year of art school in London, I was inspired by David Hockney’s work and my own summer memories, and began my own pool paintings. Over the decades, I have periodically returned to pool imagery, but it took the isolation of last summer for me to completely embrace the work I had started in 1970. The pool paintings have evolved, They have become simpler and almost idiomatic, but for me the original mystery of the remembered pools remain.
