Lost

March 18 – May 20, 2021
Axel Schmidt

Court Tree Collective presents Lost by environmental photographer Axel Schmidt. In the series Lost, both the image and audio are taken at the exact same instance. Capturing both fleeting elements in time. Installed in the streets, challenges the viewer to get back into nature.

Press Release

Axel Schmidt was born in Essen, Germany in 1962. He studied at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld under Karl Martin Holzhäuser and Gottfried Jäger. In addition to his artistic work, he works as an advertising and architecture photographer. In 2018, he was honored with the illustrated book "Pilze, Eine Gallerie" which was selected as one of the 25 most beautiful German books by the Buchkunst Foundation Frankfurt.

In his series Lost, the subjects are fleeting and barely recognizable. The intention is to create space within our memories to allow our own voyeuristic experience to take shape. The accompanied soundscapes are recorded directly from the scenes in the picture. This serves as the only clue to the viewer experience. The combination creates an imaginary journey into the past. These exact moments are fleeting.

He currently lives and works near Düsseldorf and in Switzerland.
