Morton Lichter: 1960’s paperworks from the beginning

October 18 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

In the early 1960s Morton Lichter immersed himself in several arts, studying acting with Sanford Meisner, dance with Martha Graham, art with Raphael Soyer, and at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, writing with an especially sensitive teacher. Whereas the 1950’s felt more structured and tight, the 1960’s had Morton flexing all of his creativity in many different directions. This collection of drawings was recently discovered by his husband Gordon Rogoff, the accomplished theatrical writer, director, and Professor Emeritus, Yale University.

These ink, pencil and watercolor drawings on view for the first time are an inside look into the artist as a student. In the 1950’s and 1960’s art was taught with strict authority. Self artistic expression came after the mastering of the basics. These drawings represent the beginning of Morton Lichter’s 60 year old career as an artist.

We are pleased to announce the opening of this 2 week show on Oct 18th, 7  – 9pm.
